“Wait… it’s in our water?!” That was the most common disturbing reaction to our poll questions at the Iowa State Fair prolife booth this year when people found out the truth about the chemical abortion pill:
➡️ 10% of women land in the ER within a week.
➡️ No restrictions or protections in place.
➡️ Waste from the pill is contaminating our water system, threatening fertility in our communities. Eye-opening, right?
Here are the two questions, and the answers:
Question 1 taken by 1,426 fair participants: Can Any Iowan Buy The Chemical Abortion Pill? The Answer is, sadly, YES.
Currently, there is: * No age requirement * No in-person medical appointment required * No physical exam required * No doctor is required to prescribe * No parental consent for minors * No verification of baby’s gestational age * No follow-up appointment required * Can be purchased on-line * Can be purchased by abusive men, women or human traffickers.
Question 2 taken by 1,642 fair participants: Is The Chemical Abortion Pill Safe For….. A) MOTHER (130 said YES) B) BABY (49 said YES) C) WATER (23 said YES) D) NONE (1,440 agreed) – Correct Answer
In Iowa, of the 2,771 total abortions, 70% are drug-induced abortions. (2023 Vital Statistics of Iowa). The FDA approved Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) as a safety plan to minimize complications. Since 2000, the REMS have loosened so much there is almost no oversight for these dangerous drugs. Abortion drugs are widely available on-line without seeing a medical provider and are mailed directly through the U.S. Post Office. These chemical abortions are uniquely traumatic for women because the online abortion industry providers do not prepare them for the very real fact that they will see and must personally dispose of the remains of her dead child, often times in the toilet. Unlike a medical facility requiring incineration for this waste and remains, the abortions at home flush the baby, placenta, blood and amniotic fluid down the drain where the septic systems and wastewater treatment plants aren’t equipped to remove human remains, large tissues, or pharmaceuticals. And we wonder why one in six couples have infertility issues.
Data on Question 2: A. MOTHER: In 2025, a groundbreaking study by the Ethics and Public Policy Center, “The Abortion Pill Harms Women: Insurance Data Reveals One in Ten Patients Experiences a Serious Adverse Event,: has confirmed what the pro-life movement has been sharing for years – abortion pills not only kill an unborn child but are extremely harmful for women. Highlights from the new abortion study:
- One in ten patients experience a serious adverse event after taking the abortion pill.
- This study showed that the real-world rate of serious events is at least 22 times higher than what the FDA reported (and listed on the drug label), and failed to kill the child at a rate more than double than what was reported by the FDA.
- This is the largest-known, most recent study of the abortion pill, based on 865,727 prescribed mifepristone abortions from 2017-2023.
- 10.93% of women experience sepsis, infection, hemorrhaging or other serious life-threatening adverse events within 45 days following a mifepristone abortion. This is 1 in 10 women.
- In 5% of the cases, the abortion pill does not work as intended and a surgical intervention will be needed to complete the abortion.
Data on Question 2: B. BABY: In this type of non-surgical abortion, the first pill called mifepristone is given at the abortion clinic and is used up until 9 weeks of pregnancy. Mifepristone counteracts the natural pregnancy hormone progesterone. Without progesterone the placenta fails, cutting off oxygen and nutrition to the baby, resulting in his/her death. The patient leaves the clinic after the first pill and is instructed to take the second pill, misoprostol, 24-48 hours later. Misoprostol causes contractions which will then expel the dead baby within several hours or a few days. Chemical abortion pills are advertised as a very safe abortion method, but 18-year-old Holly died a week later from a massive infection because fragments of the fetus left inside her uterus caused her to go into septic shock.
ABORTION PILL REVERSAL is available and uses natural progesterone that has been safely and effectively used to support female reproductive health since the 1950’s. This is used to counter the abortion drug, mifepristone, and sustain a pregnancy. It has a 66% success rate in saving babies’ lives. Call the 24/7 hotline at 1-877-558-0333 right now. Data on Question 2: C. WATER: According to a recent report by Liberty Counsel Action, an estimated 30-40 tons of fetal remains and abortion pill byproducts are flushed into public water systems annually. The report notes that wastewater treatment facilities are not designed to process such remains, raising questions about contamination and oversight. Mifepristone acts as an endocrine disruptor by blocking progesterone, a vital fertility hormone. Related to this is that infertility rates are on the rise and now affect 1 in 6 women.
“Nearly 700,000 times a year in the U.S., women take abortion pills, flushing the resulting remains straight down toilets and into our public water systems,” said Abigail Forman in a broadcast reported by The Vigilant Fox. “Aborted fetuses, some up to two inches long, are being flushed down toilets, clogging pipes, and traumatizing wastewater workers who find them trapped in treatment screens.” Visit www.AbortionInOurWater.org for more detailed information.
