St. Ambrose University Gives Honorary Degree to Pro-Abortion Activist

DES MOINES, IA—May 14, 2008—St. Ambrose University, a Catholic University in Davenport, Iowa, awarded one of Iowa’s most notorious abortion activists with an honorary doctorate at its graduation ceremony this past Sunday, May 11.
Margaret (“Maggie”) Tinsman, a former state senator in Iowa from 1989-2006, was given an “Honorary Doctor of Public Services” by the St. Ambrose Board of Directors. Tinsman’s public service includes an active pro-abortion record, including voting against the “Women’s Right to Know” legislation in Iowa and ushering in a bill allowing for a Medicaid waiver that tripled Planned Parenthood of Greater Iowa’s income from tax dollars. Tinsman is also on Planned Parenthood of Greater Iowa’s 2007 list of donors.
“St. Ambrose University would have to look really hard to find someone in Iowa whose work flies in the face of the Catholic Faith more than Maggie Tinsman,” said Kim Lehman, President of Iowa Right to Life. “We plan to spread the word to high school students and families who might be considering St. Ambrose.”
Tinsman’s pro-abortion push continues today. In addition to her Planned Parenthood contributions, she is a Board Member of Warren Buffet’s “Iowa Initiative to Reduce Unintended Pregnancies,” an organization stacked with Planned Parenthood supporters, that focuses on birth control distribution. She was also one of four Iowa co-chairs for pro-abortion republican Rudy Giuliani’s failed presidential bid.
