What is the Freedom of Choice Act?
The Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) is a congressional bill introduced last year that would eliminate over 550 pro-life laws. It would permit tax funding of abortion and legalize abortion on demand for any reason through the 9th month of pregnancy in all 50 states.
What FOCA Will Do:
- Repeal informed consent laws
- Repeal parental consent and notification laws
- Repeal the Ban on Partial Birth Abortion
- Remove requirements for licensed physicians to perform abortions
- Eliminate the Hyde Amendment that prevents tax funded abortions
- Strike down health and safety regulations for abortion sites
- Nullify waiting periods before an abortion can be performed
- Remove legal protections for Catholic and other religious hospitals to force abortion services
- Remove restrictions on abortions performed at military hospitals
- Nullify state conscience clauses which protect providers who decline to participate in abortions
