Washington D.C.- Congressman Steve King (R-IA) announced today that he has contacted Secretary Kathleen Sebelius of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) after learning that Planned Parenthood clinics in Iowa are using telehealth videoconferencing methods to dispense the dangerous abortion drug RU-486 in violation of FDA guidelines. King's letter to Sebelius, signed by 71 Members of Congress, requests information regarding both the extent of federal funding received by abortion providers for use in telemedicine and also the steps the Department of Health and Human Services has taken to ensure that taxpayer money is not being used to facilitate "telemed abortions."

 

DES MOINES--MAY 17, 2010--Iowa Right to Life sounded the alarm back in September 2008 about Planned Parenthood’s deadly scheme in Iowa to be "first in the nation" to have walk-in abortions at all their locations, without a doctor on-site. IRTL was right. Planned Parenthood began rolling out dangerous RU-486 abortions (also known as "medication" or "chemical" abortions or "abortion pills")that year, to its locations with a doctor consulting only by webcam and releasing RU-486 abortion pills by a remote-controlled drawer.

Lehman is transitioning this week to John Paul II Stem Cell Research Institute (JP2SRI) and will be responsible in helping the non-profit fulfill its mission in advancing adult stem cell research while promoting medical ethics in regenerative medicine. The organization is focused on finding cures to diseases like cancer, diabetes and rare diseases that plague so many people.
