Life Issues at the Legislature

Thursday, February 26 2009
Representative Mary Mascher, Human Resources Subcommittee Chairman, refuses to allow HF 231, the Complications Reporting bill out of subcommittee. We anticipate she will do the same to the other life bills. Her reason? She claims it's not needed.

We Disagree!   HF 231 is common sense....and necessary to promote and save life.

DES MOINES--February 26, 2009

I HF 321 Reporting abortion complications would create accurate records of the complications related to surgical and medication abortions. This is a high priority need when considering that Planned Parenthood has expanded their use of medication abortions into small towns --without the presence of a doctor. Furthermore, it is not unusual for the Health Department to keep complication records. There are 35 other states that agree with the importance to report complications following an abortion. These include: AZ, CT, GA, HI, ID, IL, IN, LA, MA, MD, MI, MN, MS,MT NC, ND, NE, NY, OH, OR, PA, RI, SD, TX,UT, WA, WI, WY.

II HF 323 Offering women information prior to their abortion (Women's Right to Know) couldn't be more important, considering that an abortion isn't surgery to heal but rather to take a life. Providing information of the development of the baby, the ultrasound picture and adoption options have proven to prevent abortion. Preventing abortion should be a high priority for the state.

III HF 318 Defining when life begins. It is common knowledge that life begins at conception, but there are organizations like Planned Parenthood and ACOG that are attempting to redefine when life begins in order to serve their political purposes. They falsely claim that life begins at implantation rather than at fertilization.
