Adoption
The gift of life is a gift of love. If you are pregnant and feel like you are not ready to care for a child, you have a unique opportunity to give the gift of life to a couple not able to have a child on their own.
What is adoption? Adoption is a legal act of permanently placing a child with parents other than the biological or birth parents. The adoptive parents become legally responsible for the child and the child is entitled to all privileges belonging to a natural child of the adoptive parents.
Most adoption agencies offer a variety of adoptions plans:
• Open Adoption Plan - Continuous contact with the adoptive parents and the child throughout the child’s life.
• Semi-Open Adoption - No contact with the child, but updates and photos from the adoption agency or adoptive family.
• Closed or Confidential Adoption Plan - No contact with the child or adoptive family.
There are so many parents out there who are willing to give your child a loving home. You can be involved in the process of selecting the adoptive family for your child – or you can decide to not be involved at all. It is up to you.
There are plenty of resources available to help you through your pregnancy – including financial assistance, pre- and post-natal health care, a safe place to stay and counseling.
Adoption is a courageous, selfless act – one both you and your child can live with. You owe it to yourself and your child to look into the possibilities.
